Day 4 (4-5 Hours)

What to expect?

-Sensors are placed on your head, arm, hand, and abdomen to measure things like brain activity, heart rate, and breathing 

-A heat thermode is placed on your leg to assess your responses to hot and cold stimuli 

-An electrode is attached to your ankle that will deliver electrical pulses  

-A reflex in your leg is measured in response to single and triple electric pulses 

-Experimenter assesses your pressure sensation on the top of your hand 

-Your hand is placed in cold water with and without simultaneous electric pulses to the ankle


What to bring?

-A pair of shorts

-A short sleeved shirt

-Reading material or cell phone for study down time (if wanted)

-Saliva sample #20 (Collected on the night of your last appointment)


Other Instructions:

Do not take any prescription pain medication 2 weeks before appointment

-Do not take any over the counter pain medication 24 hours before appointment

-Do not participate in strenuous exercise the morning of the appointment

-Do not consume any alcoholic beverages 24 hours before the appointment

-Do not use any substances (including marijuana) 24 hours before the appointment. 

If you cannot attend your session:

-If you arrive more than 20 mins after your scheduled time we will have to reschedule you for another day.

-Please contact the laboratory at 918-660-3048 or tulsa.plan@gmail.com at least 24 hours before your appointment.

-Please do not “no show” to your appointment. Doing so means our team lost 3-4 hours of time we could have been testing another participant.


Where to go?

Our laboratory is located on the third floor of the OU Schusterman Center Administrative Building (Room 3G01; 4502 E 41st St, Tulsa, OK 74135). Please review the attached maps and directions and have them available on the day of your appointment. Also, please don’t hesitate to call if you encounter difficulty navigating the OU-Tulsa campus; a researcher will happily direct you to parking and our lab.
